Neighborhood Renaissance Job Description:
Community Organizer
Working with residents and the City of West Palm Beach, Neighborhood Renaissance (NR) is targeting a Model Block Program for Lincoln Road in Coleman Park to include new affordable homeownership opportunities on vacant lots, rehabilitation of owner occupied homes, beautification and code enforcement. The goal is to eliminate blighted vacant lots, increase homeownership, and to improve and preserve existing affordable homes. The Community Organizer will act as a liaison between Neighborhood Renaissance and residents.
Job Duties
  • Outreach and educate Lincoln Rd. homeowners about resources for home improvements and beautification including the City of West Palm Beach & Habitat for Humanity’s housing rehabilitation programs and NR ‘s Model Block beautification program.
  • Contact neighborhood leaders, local churches and nonprofit agencies serving the Coleman Park area to learn about existing resources, programs and efforts and share with them the Model Block program and opportunities for home ownership.
  • Refer interested homebuyers to Neighborhood Renaissance’s real estate consultant.
  • Assist homeowners to complete program applications and follow-up with administrators and the homeowner throughout the intake process to completion of their home improvements.
  • Participate at the Coleman Park Neighborhood Association meetings, City’s Quarterly Task Force meetings and other venues focused on the betterment of the Coleman Park area.
  • Encourage resident attendance and participation at meetings.
  • Organize and support resident efforts to solve neighborhood problems including crime, dumping, and code enforcement.
  • Assist residents to access needed services, educational and job opportunities through referrals.
  • Represents NR at various community events, meetings and media event.
  • Serve as a credible source of knowledge and information to community members who desire to be more involved and educated on various efforts
  • Promote activities through social media.


  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
  • Belief in community organizing as a means to improve community development
  • Commitment to social justice, experience working in low-income urban communities
  • Excellent communication skills particularly listening
  • Strong follow-up and determination
  • Able to utilize online organizing tools and social media
  • BA is preferred
